It is not advised due to inherent variations in size and curvature of the tile.

Spacers are not necessary for laying floor tiles. If the labor have sufficient experience in tiles laying work or the labor is expert in tile laying work, then the spacer are not necessary. ... By using spacers, the space in between the tile can be maintained well without any deviation.

International standards says to keep spacers between tiles while laying tiles.

Reason being;

  1. In case if one tile breaks you can pluck and replace. If spacers is not kept then there will be higher chances other tile will break while plucking damaged tiles.
  2. Spacers gaps are filled with grouts. Vitrified tiles have zero porosity which means when you leave splash of water on them they will be intact until it is wiped. Grouts sometimes also helps to soak water. (Source)
